The Real Cost of a Slow Website (It's More Than You Think)
A client came to us with a site that looked great and had solid content. They were even spending money on marketing. But conversions were low.
When we checked the site on mobile, the full load time was around eight seconds. Eight. In reality, most people won't wait that long. They just leave.
The numbers that matter
If you want a quick mental model, here are three things to remember:
- Mobile users bounce fast when pages feel heavy.
- A one-second delay can hurt signups and inquiries.
- Page speed affects search rankings, which affects traffic.
What we usually do first
We start with the basics: compress images, lazy-load what doesn't need to load immediately, and make sure caching is configured properly. Once those are done, we look at bundle size, server response times, and third-party scripts.
Speed isn't a nice-to-have. If you're spending on ads or SEO, performance is part of your budget too.
